Exploring Refractory Organics in Extraterrestrial Particles

چکیده
Abstract The origin of organic compounds detected in meteorites and comets, some which could have served as precursors life on Earth, remains an open question. aim the present study is to make one more step revealing nature composition materials extraterrestrial particles by comparing infrared spectra laboratory-made refractory residues cometary returned Stardust mission, interplanetary dust particles, meteorites. Our results reinforce idea a pathway for formation organics through energetic thermal processing molecular ices solar nebula. There also possibility that material had formed already parental cloud before it entered majority IR “organic” bands studied can be reproduced laboratory residues. We confirm detection water, nitriles, hydrocarbons, carbonates link location outer regions To clarify genesis species, high-sensitivity observations combination with measurements like those presented this paper are needed. Thus, presents piece puzzle water Earth motivation future collaborative observational projects.

Search for Extraterrestrial Particles in Sediment from the South Pacific
Introduction: Micrometeorites and IDPs dominate the flux of extraterrestrial material to the earth [1] and have long been collected from the stratosphere, polar ice, and deep-sea sediments [e.g., 2]. Recent efforts have focused on locating new locations from which cosmic dust grains can be easily collected and identified. Certain regions in the Pacific Ocean with limited sources of terrestrial ...
متن کاملSuppression in Droplet Growth Kinetics by the Addition of Organics to Sulfate Particles
20 Aerosol-cloud interactions are affected by the rate at which water vapour condenses onto 21 particles during cloud droplet growth. Changes in droplet growth rates can impact cloud droplet 22 number and size distribution. The current study investigated droplet growth kinetics of acidic and 23 neutral sulfate particles which contained various amounts and types of organic compounds, from 24 mod...

I N T H E E F F O R T of devising ways and means of studying the existence of living organisms on other planets, attention must be focussed on microorganisms. This is not entirely due to professi, onal prejudice of microbiology, but is the consequence of accepted realization that microorganisms are responsible for the major amount of turnover of matter on earth and that life of the higher plants...
متن کاملUniversalist Ethics in Extraterrestrial Encounter
Background: Extraterrestrial Encounter While humanity has not yet encountered an extraterrestrial civilization, this possibility cannot be ruled out. Some evidence suggests that an encounter may be likely. If an encounter occurs, it would be of profound significance for humanity. There thus has been much debate on the outcome of an encounter. Opinions are sharply divided on whether extraterrest...
متن کاملOrganics in Apollo Lunar Samples
Introduction: One of many unknowns prior to the Apollo landings concerned the possibility of life, its remains, or its organic precursors on the surface of the Moon. While the existence of lunar organisms was considered highly unlikely, a program of biological quarantine and testing for the astronauts, the Apollo Command Modules, and the lunar rock and soil samples , was instituted in the Lunar...
